Boy staring into space

Sci-Fi Party

Encourage your child’s imagination with a futuristic Science Fiction Party. The theme can be space travel, aliens, or robots. Have the party at home or visit a local tech museum or planetarium.

Party Invitations
Design invitations with little green men offering “Greetings Earthling, we come in peace”, a space ship (aluminum foil) or a solar system map of distant (imaginary) galaxy named after your child.

Party Decorations
Decorate with plastic space men, large alien paper cut outs, hanging planets (colored styrofoam balls) and stars, star charts, a foil covered box “space ship”, Christmas lights (white or multi color blinking) and a Roswell or Area 51 sign.

Games & Activities
Play find the alien (follow clues to find a well hidden alien toy), alien twister (place red alien sticker on red dot, yellow alien on yellow dot, etc.), and pin the eyes on the aliens (give each child and eye and let them each add their eye to a large drawing of and alien face). Identify stars and planets with a telescope at a night time party. Show science fiction videos (Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.).

Arts & Crafts
Make alien masks using paper pie plates, construction paper and markers or miniature aliens using pom pom balls, pipe cleaners and wiggle eyes or modeling clay. Decorate unknown planets using colored styrofoam balls, pipe cleaners, sequins and pins. Make space ships out of plastic containers (butter tubs or styrofoam containers), foil, and other misc. supplies.

Party Refreshments
Serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cheese and crackers, green jello with grapes inside (alien pods), Milky Way and Mars candy bars and Tang. Make star shaped sugar cookies or cupcakes with a plastic space alien on top.

Party Favors
Send guests home with plastic or rubber aliens, space toys (ships, robots, etc.), alien or space stickers, glow in the dark stars or science fiction novels.
